I expect that by maintenance you mean replace it. Got rid of mine when the car started cutting out. Then I discovered this little baby on doing some research on the problem (looked just like the other photos). My advice to everyone, if you still have the yellow connector...then replace it now!..Apparently even the electrical supply on our cars is more meaty than others.

What's the downside to soldering the wires without the connector..?

Is a heavy duty replacement available..?

Cheers

Only drawback to soldering is if you have to remove steering column later otherwise nada!!

I used a chocolate box - type connector from elcetical bits shop. - Easy to fit and removable if required. Just make sure you get one with a higher amp rating

Maybe some of this would help ( if applied before things get too bad ) ?

Many connector faults are the result of forcing male and female parts together at incorrect angles, mostly due to the connectors being located in hard to reach places. Contralube770 is effective at reducing the mating force required, ensuring solid connections and efficient assembly

Last time I mentioned contralube in the house got my face slapped!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all my yellow connector is still in place, it looks ok so I didn't disturb it but reading the comments it looks like I should consider changing it. If I were to change it and use a choc box connector arrangement, what ampage would you suggest (Electrician I am not) Other suggestions on replacing also welcomed. Thanks Damon.

These things are generally sold for use on mains (220v) electrics so their amperage rating won't be correct at 12 volt but basically if it is big enough to get all strands of cable in easily should be ok. I would personally get one large enough to push cables in from both ends so they overlap then the two screws will clamp down onto both wires. Make sense ?

Better too big than too small !

Agree with you Phillpot,

I just used the biggest chocky block I had.

Seems to be working fine.

As Dave M says had him in my rear view mirror all the way home. hehe ( make sure you buy them from Wilkos seem to give you at least an extra 10 - 20 BHP laugh

Dave really enjoyed the run out and had good chat with the rest of the TVR infected. Will see you and the rest of the TVRCC at the next one.
